Is It Just a Piece of Paper? What You Can Do with a Social Media Certification

I remember talking to someone about getting my certificate in digital marketing. They asked me “Why would you get your certificate in that. It’s just a piece of paper,” and for a moment I thought they might be right. I considered not going for a degree in marketing or being specialized in it. Unfortunately, it’s now how the world works. Your knowledge, as good as it may be, isn’t something employers dig into. They want proof that you know what you are talking about. I don’t blame them either. In most positions, thousands of applicants apply every day. The bare minimum is a certification indicating that you are the right fit for the position

A piece of paper may not mean a lot to some, but it is significant in the working world. Despite it being a piece of paper, there is no proof of you being an excellent choice for a potential position.

Number 1: Show Proof to Employers that You Know Your Stuff

I explained this a bit previously. It’s about the proof. It may not seem like it’s important because there are top influencers who may or not be certified. Nevertheless, this is an exception to the rule. While there are social media specialists out there that have a large following, which is awesome, if they were to apply to a bigger company, they may not be selected for the simple fact that there is no proof showing that they are skilled.

This is because social media isn’t the only indicator that you know your stuff. Realistically, followers can be purchased and engagement can be fabricated. There are experts at social media, but in most instances, they have proof to back up that they know what they are talking about.

Number 2: Expand Your Knowledge

There is nothing wrong with expanding your knowledge. As a marketer and someone who has been in the field for a couple of years now, it’s for your benefit to expand your knowledge even if you do not want to be a social media marketing specialist. There are a number of things you can do with social media including marketing yourself to bigger companies. For instance, let’s say you want to start a new bakery shop because you are interested in baking cakes that people really love, you can grow your bakery shop through understanding how social media works. A simple course may be the difference between your cakes selling and/ or not selling.

Number 3: Go Onto Bigger Things

Social Media is in our lives. There is no escaping it. This is not to say that you can’t live without social media. You certainly can. However, if you look at the grand scheme, LinkedIn is one of the top social media sites today. This is where more employers and recruiters are spending their time. If you want to move onto bigger things, networking via Social Media is an opportunity to do that.

It’s a great invention that everyone has a platform. It’s a platform to do achieve anything. Social Media is the biggest equalizer where solo entrepreneurs, small businesses, and large corporations are on an even playing field. Additionally, those who weren’t big on networking have the chance to network via social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, and more.
