This course will introduce students to the subject matter covered by the CompTIA A+ certification. This is an industry standard certification for a career in Information Technology. Upon course completion students will have learned the core concepts and technologies covered by the CompTIA A+ certification. Students will then be prepared to continue on to more in-depth study to prepare for the A+ certification exam and be ready for entry-level work in the Information Technology industry.

Computer technology has changed substantially over just the last few years, and it constantly continues to evolve. This has created a steady demand for information technology professionals who are attracted to a career path where they can always learn new things, develop a wide variety of skills, and be given a wide range of opportunities. Students interested in computers and information technology can start with basic instruction and become a Computer Support Specialist. A Computer Support Specialist can typically advance to other roles including Computer System Administrator, Network System Administrator, or Information Security Analyst (Cybersecurity.)
WHAT DOES A COMPUTER SUPPORT SPECIALIST DO?
A Computer Support Specialist (also called a Technical Support Specialist) provide first level assistance to computer users. They diagnose and resolve problems, perform maintenance and testing, and provide assistance and training to computer users. This is most commonly done over the phone (Helpdesk Support) or by an in-person visit (Technical Support.) Those with good customer service skills (listening, speaking, and writing) as well as an ability to solve problems are a good fit to be a Computer Support Specialist.
